The Type & Copy Shop Stationers
A BIT ABOUT THE COMPANY &
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The birth and evolution of The Type & Copy Shop Stationers is a tale of advancing technology. In 1970, Mr Frank Summerfield, a Chartered Consulting Engineer, diversified his admin department into the Copy Shop and Secretarial Services. The early 1980's saw growth into a busy telex bureau. The potential rise of fax was quickly spotted and as predicted, the fax bureau services took over telex. Word processors overtook typewriters, then computers with sophisticated word processing, desktop publishing and graphics facilities overtook dedicated word processors. Matrix printers were replaced with beautiful quality laser printers. Top quality digital photocopiers transformed the old image photocopying. Complementary binding and laminating facilities were added to provide a total one-stop service. Ammonia plan printing machines gave way to clean, smart, large-size plan photocopying. With the advent of full colour laser copying pages burst into life in colour. The Type & Copy Shop Stationers pioneered the way in the North of England with the original Canon laser copier. A spin-off from this was the colour printing onto t-shirts, sweatshirts, jigsaws and the like, the client simply providing the image. Next, the reception was enhanced into a well stocked supplies shop alongside catalogue mail ordering of stationery sundries. As the MD is amongst the ever increasing number of enthusiasts with a family tree tracing hobby, family tree presentation became a further addition to the list of services offered. Frank continues his structural engineering practice [Structural Engineering] whilst the copy shop and secretarial services have been carried out by his assistants - a friendly, helpful team :-). We look forward to being of service to you!
"What if I Live Miles Away From Your Office!"
Relax - distance is no obstacle! In fact, we have never met many of our regular clients face to face, they come from as far flung corners as from Scotland to New Zealand. Handwritten sheets for typing or originals for copying can be mailed or faxed through to us then the finished product posted back by earliest possible, often same day, return post. Audio cassette tapes can be well packaged and posted to us, live dictation can also be taken over the telephone. We would, however, recommend registered post for precious photographs or taking a photocopy before posting us the original of say a book manuscript which is your lifetime's work.
"So Who Are Your Customers? What Type of People Use These Services?"
"What About Payment Arrangements?"
All kinds - anyone and everyone! Large national companies know it makes sense to send some jobs out, they call it "outsourcing", whether because of work overloads, staff holidays or illness, tight deadlines or just those items that are plain tedious or difficult. Equally we don't turn away the local old ladies popping in with their knitting patterns and recipes! The self employed stagger in with mounds of tax returns and receipts to be copied, harassed students dash in for last minute typing of theses. Job seekers bring CVs, schools their timetables and wall displays, accountants bring figures, authors their literary creations, clubs and societies want newsletters, tickets and programmes. Artists and graphic designers proudly copy their creations in colour, solicitors copy photographic evidence. Factories may need manuals duplicated, restaurants their menus laminated, architects needing plans printed. Probably the majority of our customers run small businesses and see the sense in reducing their overheads rather than expending huge amounts of money on equipment and wages for staff, only to find that these stand idle most of the time, wastefully under-utilised. They bring us their paperwork to handle, often using the telephone answering message-taking service too so that they can be out making profits rather than tied to a telephone. Many working from home like the prestigious business mailing address service which protects their privacy. The list really is endless as potential applications can apply to all.
Payment for services or goods must be made prior to dispatch, or upon collection. For clients not local enough to pay cash upon collection, we recommend English currency cheques or payment by Credit Card [We take Mastercard, Visa, Delta and Eurocard]. Cheques can be payable to either 'Torplan Ltd' or 'The Type & Copy Shop Stationers.'
